Space Invader couch is perfect for your retro game room
Back in the day, I had a few favorite video games that I played on my Atari. I would often move from Pac Man to Asteroids and then to Space Invaders and back again. If you have a love for retro gaming this sweet Space Invader Couch will bring back memories.

If I had a retro gaming room, this would totally be the couch I would play games on. We don’t have many details on the thing. It looks like ...

Home-made life insurance, the Apollo way
Of all the places I never expected to learn anything cool about the Apollo astronauts, number one would have to be the blog run by ukinsurance.net. ("For many years we have provided buildings and contents insurance for home owners, landlords and business premises.") I mean, it doesn't exactly promise a light, zippy read, does it? But it delivers one, and this week's post on "The Apollo...

Lampshade made from X-rays

Swedish design student Sture Pallarp created this "X-ray lamp" as a school assignment, incorporating real X-rays in to the lampshade for a lovely effect. With digital radiography becoming the norm, there's a limited window to produce this kind of thing: get cracking!

Digital Inspiration Technology Blog

A recent story published in the NYT painted a bleak picture of the future for smartphone makers Nokia and RIM, the developers of BlackBerry.
R.I.M.’s share of the American smartphone market fell to 41 percent in the first quarter from 55 percent in the previous year, according to Gartner. The combined share held by [Apple] iPhones and [Google] Android handsets rose to 49 percent, from 23...
50 Useful Tools and Resources For Web Designers
An effective, well-organized workflow is an important asset of professional web designers. The more useful and time-saving your tools are, the more time you can focus on important things, thus creating a foundation for timely good-quality results. The problem is that there are just way too many tools, services and resources out there, so it has become difficult to keep track on them and...
Are We On The Cusp Of A Jailbroken App Revolution?

The DMCA ruling won’t change things for the average iPhone user — the main difference being that jailbreakers now can’t be sued by Apple successfully under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Apple will continue their attempts to block the jailbroken phones with every iOS update and jailbreakers will keep getting more and more savvy, like a vicious cycle of digital cat and mouse.

Caterpillar torture porn
Wired's Erin Biba brings us this image of a caterpillar literally bursting with parasites. Taken by Flickr user sugarpond, this moment of sheer horror is probably the handiwork of one of several species of wasps that lay their eggs inside caterpillar bodies.

A visit to Spirited Away creator's museum in Japan

(In July, I went on a family vacation to Japan. Here are my posts about the trip: Watermelons in the shape of cubes, hearts, and pyramids | What happened to the Burgie Beer UFO of Melrose Avenue?)
A couple of days after we arrived in Tokyo, we visited the Ghibli Museum. It's in a suburb of Tokyo (we had to take a train and then a bus to get there) and was designed by the famous animator Hayao...
How to restore the color of dingy old Lego bricks

UPDATE: Boing Boing reader Jody thinks these are two different flags, and I agree.
Here's a recipe for making a wonderfully caustic goop called Retr0bright that restores the color of of old computer cases and Lego bricks. It contains hydrogen peroxide, glycerine, vegetable gum, and sodium percarbonate.
Anyone who has dug their old computer or console out of the cupboard or loft for some retro...

Today saw T-Mobile finally retiring the venerable G1, forerunner to the ongoing Android revolution. I’ve been using a G1 since launch, so this is an emotional moment for me. Let’s just take a quick trip down memory lane out of respect for a solid phone.
